When there is no signal on site
A concrete basement, a road twenty minutes out of town, an elevator shaft: no signal is not an outage, it is a working condition. A tool that demands a connection at the wrong moment is a tool nobody opens again.
What works with no signal
The whole capture lives on the phone. You dictate, photograph, annotate, add notes — none of it waits for the network.
- Voice recording, with pause and resume.
- Photos, finger annotation, written notes.
- Reading quotes that have already synced.
What needs the server, and why
Pricing does need the network: transcription and AI structuring run on servers, not on the phone. We would rather write that down than let you discover it.
In practice the capture is queued and sends itself as soon as the signal returns — usually back in the truck. There is nothing to retry, and you are notified when the quote is ready to review.
The escape hatches
A queue that jams without saying so is worse than no queue at all. An audit in September 2026 found seven such cases and fixed them, each with its own test.
- A queue screen shows, capture by capture, what is waiting and why.
- A stuck capture can be retried, or deleted, without going through support.
- An oversized photo no longer blocks the whole upload: the problem is named and isolated.
- Nothing is removed from the phone until the server confirms receipt.
FAQ
How long can a capture wait?
As long as it needs to. It lives in the phone's local database and survives closing the app and restarting the device. A full day off-grid catches up in one go that evening.
Does it work in airplane mode?
The capture does — it is the same mechanism. Pricing will wait until airplane mode is off.
What if I change phones before syncing?
A capture that has not been sent lives on the old device. Before switching phones, open the queue screen and wait until it is empty — that is the only precaution to take.
